Enjoy a fully narrated adventure that starts with a traversing of the island via the scenic Saddle Road. You get to marvel at the world’s tallest sea mountain, Mauna Kea, and world’s most massive mountain, Mauna Loa. After a picnic-style lunch at Rainbow Falls near quaint downtown Hilo, your tour continues to a rare black sand beach where endangered sea turtles rest. In the afternoon, visit Hawaii Volcanoes National Park with a trip around the Chain of Craters Road, for the mountain to sea experience. Various stops are made to view magnificent volcanic eruption and flow sites of the past , the beautiful park coastline, and the remarkable Holei Sea Arch.
In addition, your ranger-trained tour guide provides educational and insightful narrative about the active volcanoes as you discover rare flora and fauna through the short and leisurely hikes in the rainforest and the Thurston Lava Tube. Your guide also leads you to the Kilauea Iki lookout, steam vents, and historic Jaggar Museum. Enjoy a sit-down dinner and watch for current lava lake activity at spectacular Halemaumau Crater after sunsets. If weather permits, there may be opportunity to stop along Saddle Road on the way back to your hotel to view the gorgeous night sky of Hawaii.
Pick up location and Time
Tour departs daily. We pick up from all resorts and hotels in Keauhou, Kona, Waikoloa, and Kohala area between 9 am to 10 am. Actual pick up time vary depending on location and sunset time. Tour duration is around 12 hours. We also pick up from major hotels in Hilo between 12 pm to 1 pm. Tour duration is around 8 hours. Actual pick up time vary depending on location and sunset time.
What to bring and wear
Wear comfortable clothing in layers as temperatures vary from warm to cool. We recommend bring a light jacket and wear covered walking shoes.
Group Size: Tours are limited to maximum 13 guests per vehicle
Tour difficulty: Easy hiking over short distance. Ages 6 and older are recommended.
Included in the tour: Gourmet lunch consists of teriyaki chicken, fish, vegetables, and steamed rice with assorted juices, snacks, and bottled water. Sit-down dinner at a café near Volcanoes National Park. In addition, all park entrance fees, jackets, and rain gear. Hilo pick-up does NOT include lunch and stop at Rainbow Falls.
Cancellation Policy: Minimum 24 hours notice for groups of 1-5, 48 hours notice for groups of 6 or more, and 72 hour notice for private groups to receive a full refund.
How much hiking do we do?
A: We will have couple easy hikes over short distance in this tour. Total hike distance is about a mile.
Will we get to see active lava?
A: Due to the dynamic nature of active volcanoes, lava viewing conditions change daily or even hourly. The best viewing of current eruptive activity is on our Twilight Volcano Tour. We will do our best to get you to the closest viewing area providing it is safe and legal.
What is the difference between the Twilight Volcano Tour and Circle Island Tour?
A: The Twilight Volcano Tour spends more time in Volcanoes National Park. It traverses the island via Saddle Road to the first two stops, Rainbow Falls and black sand beach, before continues to the park.
The Circle Island Tour highlights the whole island in one day. It takes a circular route around the island which includes a daytime stop at Volcanoes National Park in addition to waterfalls, valleys, and black sand beach.
